At home, there’s the Temple Bar Chocolate Festival October 30th – November 1st 2009.
In the UK, there’ s Chocolate Week 12th – 18th October 2009.
And in Paris, there’s the Salon du Chocolat 14th – 18th October 2009.

Have been to Salon du Chocolat 2 years in a row, and loving it! I’ve just booked my flight for the 3rd visit, hurrah!

That is super Lil. I just booked my flights and babysitter so Himself and I are off for our wedding anniversary. But tell me, do I need to book tickets for the actual Salon Du Chocolat or can we turn up and pay at the door?? Any advice from a seasoned salon-er like yourself would be invaluable!

You can turn up and pay at the door, but if you arrive late there might be a long line waiting.
You can book tickets here : http://www.ticketnet.fr/shop/fr/manif.asp?idmanif=178649&idtier=78768

Indeed, you can buy tickets at the door. Otherwise, when you arrive in Paris, just go in to a Fnac shop (there’s a big one on Champs Elysees) and most of them has a ticketing counter that sells ticket to Salon du Chocolat, so you can get them ahead. Apart from the ticket shop link given by Genaro, you can also book them from http://www.fnac.fr
From experience, it pays to get there early in the day (my friends and I were there at 10am) even if you already have a ticket, because it gives you a good chance to enjoy the salon without a huge crowd of people swarming over the counters etc.
Try not to go on the last day if possible, as some exhibitors are from abroad and certain popular stocks may be gone (e.g. Madame Setsuko’s wonderful green tea ganache).
Otherwise, just go there, enjoy the atmosphere, try and taste all the samples (you will be quite full from sampling by the end of it) and catch some of the shows if you can (although the crowd will be much bigger then). Allocate no less than 4 hours. You could easily make it a full day, but I’m sure there are lots more you can do in Paris for your anniversary. :)

Genaro and Lil, thank you very much for the info. I’ve booked my tickets just today and am very excited about it now. Ended up paying a lot of postage but since time is short I thought it best to get the tix delivered as opposed to collecting them somewhere.
Lil – we will definitely allocate 4 hrs to the day … hope to be there by 11am and leave maybe when we are shoo’ed out :-) I must come up with a plan of attack now i.e. go thru the list of exibitors and list the ‘must-sees’. Thanks again.
