In advance: Sorry Mr Doorley for stealing your book title, (muck or merlot) but it seemed fitting for this product.
For some reason best known only to my taste buds, I do not like alcohol flavoured desserts e.g. rum and raisin, tiramisu, sherry trifle. So when I saw Cocoa Farm’s Merlot Wine Chocolate I had a dilemma: on the one hand it is chocolate, on the other it is alcohol flavoured.
I couldn’t pass it up given that it was made from beans grown in Australia’s first cacao plantation.
So as directed on the pack, I prepared myself for a ‘mouth watering unique experience’. They have mixed Merlot infused currants with a 36% chocolate.
It tastes predominantly of good milk chocolate with raisin pieces and a light fruity flavour. The bar is a novelty, something I would gift but probably would not buy for myself. A wine connoisseur might spot the flavour to be Merlot but I can only discern a dried fruit flavour, not heavily alcoholic at all.
